YOSEMITE, ZION, ARCHES & MOAB 2013-2014 TRIP
This year our usual trip did not get off the ground as planned. Texas had one of those rare ice storms. We were trapped at home for four days, thus our plans and reservations had to be modified on the fly. We finally did get out of town and headed back to Yosemite National Park. We have not been to Yosemite in over seven years and we were anxious to return. Probably a good thing we were delayed, since they were buried in snow by the same storm that hit Texas. We spent six days in the park before we moved our base of operation to Utah.
Next we spent eleven days in Springdale, UT where we have access to Zion National Park. This is one of our favorite places to work. We have found a lot of out of the way places which keeps us away from the usual attractions and crowds of people. Zion had also been buried in snow and experienced record cold, so again maybe a good thing we were delayed.
Our last stop was for five days in Moab, UT, which gives us access to the Colorado River and Arches National Park. There was plenty of snow on the ground well over three weeks after the storm. The sky was still drab, so we worked some secluded areas making details. The hoarfrost was the largest we had ever seen. Looked like goose down and was everywhere.
The entire trip the weather was extremely bland. All of the weather action had moved to the East coast and we had little more than gray skies and con trails. Not to worry, if your sky is not that great, you concentrate on doing details. We found the coldest temperatures in Moab, with one morning touching on 15F. Most all days were sunny and the wind was only a factor on the trip home.
We hauled 4×10, 8×10, 11×14 and 8×20 cameras and managed to shoot most every holder we had and did one reload in Springdale. We were gone 26 days, shot film 18 days, drove 4,326 miles. We brought back a lot of snapshots of our adventure. As usual we have created a trip album. Hope you enjoy a glimpse of our adventure!
